Mikes and Dave’s trip to the River Ebro in Spain. Also tied in with Dave’s Birthday so no pressure at all for a new personal best.

In total they caught and landed 45 fish. both left with new PB’s.  Total weight was 1123 lbs which considering most of that was carp was pretty impressive. The conditions were not easy with the river in flood and fish spawning. To summarise a great five days fishing with 2 fantastic blokes who are welcome anytime.

9 catfish over 100 lbs caught with CatfishingCaspe

A superb weeks fishing in a world class venue, the river Ebro!!! A fantastic group of blokes who go home with some good memories of excellent fishing. 89 Fish were caught, for a total weight of 3389 lbs That equates to 1 fish every 32 minutes.   Definitely not a place to come and relax.

The largest Catfish was 164 lbs!! however they set a new record for most amount of catfish caught in a trip. 9 fish over 100 lbs were caught.

Belly boating and extreme fly fishing for catfish on the river Ebro, Spain

Belly boating and fly fishing for catfish!  a relaxing sport!  Not when you mix it with Monster catfish and huge Carp.  This is just what Marc Skovby from futurefly.dk, and Henrik Petersen did for the second Year.

This is the ultimate extreme fly fishing.  Especially as they were fishing the River Ebro, Spain home of the giant Wels Catfish.

World Records

This 221 cm Wels Catfish was caught using a fly rod from a belly boat. unofficial world record!

The largest Catfish caught last year was 221cm.  The estimated weight was around 160 lbs.  which is 56 lbs larger than the current fly record.   They also caught Wels Catfish at 189cm,  162cm and this year one at 152,5cm.   That is fantastic sport and a amazing experience.

Maarten and Martje visit to the River Ebro in Spain with catfishingcaspe The trip started off with a bang and continued to get better. In total they caught 51 Wels catfish and 12 Common carp. 5 of the Catfish were over 100 lbs and 1 just under with 96 lbs. They had a fantastic 5 days fishing with some monster fish being caught. A pleasure to fish with and great company.

ROB AND JAMES TRIP TO THE RIVER EBRO IN SPAIN WITH CATFISHINGCASPE
James and Rob started the week off in a flooded swim. The water was up to our waists with all work weighing being carried out in the water. This did not stop the lads of the fish and Pb’s were soon being broken repeatedly. The lads wanted Carp more than Wels Catfish and the first few days were to be disappointed as the Carp were hammering natural baits in the flooded margins. However the last two days the carp turned up in force and Pb’s were again smashed. They caught Carp up to 39lbs and Wels Catfish up to 148lbs All in all a successful trip with some fantastic fish caught. 43 fish caught in total with a lot of carp over the 30lb mark and many cats over the 60 lbs mark.

Chris and Tom’s visit coincided with the River Ebro’s highest water levels I have witnessed. The carp of course were still out spawning. Leaving us no backup fish to target we had to go all out for catfish and hope the rising water levels had not disturbed the feeding. Day 1 was slow with only 4 Silurus glanis being caught. Day 2 was a complete reversal with 19 catfish being caught. we lost 4 to Zebra mussels cutting lines and hook pulls. to say the day was frantic is an understatement. the first chance the lads had for lunch was 1400hrs. In total 19 Wels catfish were caught the largest being 102lbs a new PB for Tom. Chris had a new Pb of 70lbs after losing a monster catfish to zebra muscles.

Silurus Glanis

This Wels Catfish weighing 73 kg,160 lbs was caught on a carp rod and proved to be a difficult fight.  The fight had to be finished in the boat as the fish just continued to take line.
